UFC title fight scheduled for Berlin in June

After years of asking European MMA finally has a UFC title fight this side of the Atlantic. What makes it even sweeter is it will feature a European champion too.
Newly crowned UFC women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk from Poland will step into the main event slot in Berlin on the 20th June to defend her belt against US fighter, Jessica Penne.
The card was originally supposed to be headlined by Alexander Gustafsson. The Swede has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming UFC Fight Night Berlin main event bout against Glover Teixeira due to injury.
Not since BJ Penn won his UFC lightweight title in Newcastle in 2008 has a championship belt been contested this side of the Atlantic. This historic match up will be the first title fight to take place in Europe outside of the UK and the first ever female title fight in Europe.
Following her impressive title win over Carla Esparza in March this year, Jedrzejczyk returned to Poland a national hero and began to train for her next fight almost immediately, eager to defend the belt against the next contender.
Former Invicta atomweight champion Penne featured on the 2014 series of The Ultimate Fighter : A Champion Will be Crowned recording a win over Randa Markos who just beat Aisling Daly.
Penne, once the best in the world at 105lbs, will look to derail the meteoric run of Jedrzejczyk with her world class ground attack and claim the strawweight belt.
Tickets go on sale to UFC Fight Club on May 6, Newsletter subscribers on May 7 and general public on May 8.
