MOTORSPORT: Despite being forced to retire from the main race, George Tracey from Mullingar clinched his first National Rallycross title at Mondello Park yesterday.
Tracey's Citroen Xsara has been unbeaten all season but clutch failure brought him to a halt. This let Ian O'Connell take the Super Final in his Lotus Exige, well clear of Willie Coyne's Corsa, but even though there is one round remaining in the championship, Tracey cannot be beaten.
Defending champion Steven Ferguson made it six wins in a row this season and eight in total, as he added the Monaghan round of the Hewison Autotest Championship to his collection. Ferguson is virtually certain of taking his second title in succession.
