Thomas Barr claims gold medal for Ireland in the World University Games

There was joy for Ireland in the World University Games in Korea today as Waterford's Thomas Barr scooped the gold medal in the 400m hurdles while Fiona Doyle claimed silver in the the 50m breaststroke.

Barr stormed home in a time of 48.78 ahead of Abdelmalik Lahoulou from Algeria.

In swimming, Doyle put in a brilliant finish as she came in second place behind Ukraine's Mariia Liver in the 50m breaststroke.

Other Irish in action included Ciara Everard who finished sixth in the 800m final while John Travers ended up ninth in the 1500m final.
