The race to get involved - sporting events booked solid

The Ring of Kerry cycle on July 4 is the biggest sport tourism event in Munster, with 10,000 places booked out immediately.

With the Taoiseach leading this out every year, riders are in good company.

The Tour de Conamara on May 23 started five years ago with 150 people and is booked out for this year.

Meanwhile, the Great Limerick Run sees 10,000 people take part tomorrow. The Women's Mini Marathon on June 1 is the biggest sporting event of its kind in the world, bringing 40,000 participants on to the streets - and many from all over the country, packing out hotels in the capital.

In October, about 14,000 runners will take part in the Dublin City Marathon.
