Sheamus claimed wrestling's biggest prize when successfully cashing in his Money in the Bank contract at Survivor Series last night to become the new WWE world heavyweight champion.

Roman Reigns had just beaten Dean Ambrose to claim the crown for the first time before The Celtic Warrior ruined his historic night with a Brogue Kick to steal the tile.

The 37-year-old veteran, who featured on Angela Scanlon's Close Encounters series on RTÉ last month, will now start his third reign as the company's top champion having not held the belt since 2010.

The Cabra native, real name Stephen Farrelly, has had a ongoing social media feud with fellow Dubliner Conor McGregor but now both could be world champions if the UFC fighter can beat Jose Aldo in their unification bout on next month.

Sheamus aligned himself with The Authority, led by WWE Executive Vice President Triple H, in the immediate aftermath and looks set for a leading role in the company for some time to come.
