Tennis: Zvonareva into semis
Vera Zvonareva is just one victory away from her second Grand Slam final of 2010 after defeating Kaia Kanepi 6-3 7-5 at the US Open yesterday.
The Russian won the quarter-final match simply by getting balls back and watching her 31-seeded opponent self-destruct.
Estonian Kanepi -- a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon this year -- made 60 unforced errors in a windy Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Zvonareva reached the Wimbledon final this year, where she lost to Serena Williams.
Kim Clijsters and Venus Williams are also through to the last four -- they play each other.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's doubles star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi is bidding to become the first tennis player from his country to win a Grand Slam title. Devastated by floods and terrorism and embarrassed over a cricket corruption scandal, Pakistanis are pinning their hopes on this unlikely sporting star to give the country something to cheer.
Qureshi is in the mixed doubles final and the men's doubles semi-finals at Flushing Meadows.
