CONOR NILAND yesterday failed to drive on from a strong first-set performance in the ATP Challenger Tour event in Eckental, Germany.
Returning to the second-tier Challenger circuit after two tournaments on the third-tier Futures programme, Niland took the opener in his first- round match against Germany's Mischa Zverev.
But the game of the 30-year-old Limerick man then unravelled and Zverev went on to prevail 3-6 6-3 6-3.
Elsewhere, Amy Bowtell powered her way to the second round of the ITF Women's Circuit event in Stockholm, (4-6 6-3 6-1) to set up a clash with Austria's Janina Toljan.
