Phil Taylor began his pursuit of a 17th World Championship with a comfortable first-round win at Alexandra Palace.
Taylor, who produced the highest checkout of the tournament so far with a 167, sealed a 3-0 win over Japan's Keita Ono. The veteran dropped only one leg. "A 20th world title will top everything and that is what I am after," Taylor said.
Englishman Ricky Evans produced a stunning comeback to beat Simon Whitlock in the best match of the tournament so far.
Australian Whitlock, the number 10 seed, appeared on course to cruise through to the second round and had two darts to secure a straight-sets win.
But Evans, 25, bounced back in emphatic fashion to win 6-4 in the decisive set with a 130 checkout.
