KATIE TAYLOR kicked off her European Championships campaign with a solid preliminary-round win over Julia Irmen in Holland yesterday.
The World lightweight champion, who is aiming for her fifth European gold medal in a row, recorded a 15-7 victory over the German over four two-minute rounds in Rotterdam.
"We're happy with all the performances today," said Taylor's coach and dad Peter. "We've got off to a good start out here."
Taylor meets Romina Marenda of Italy in the last-16 of the competition today.
However, while Taylor was celebrating yet another victory, her Bray BC team-mate Laoise Traynor bowed out.
Traynor lost 21-2 to tough Welsh welterweight Lauren Price, but Dublin's Sinead Kavanagh advanced to today's 75kg duel with England's Savannah Marshall.
Kavanagh, who boxes out of the Drimnagh BC, posted an impressive 18-9 decision over Viktoria Kebikava of Belarus in the middleweight class.
Taylor, Kavanagh and Irish team-mates Katie Rowland, Michaela Walsh, Ceire Smith, Kelly Harrington and Lynne McEnery will be in action today, while Laura O'Neill has received a bye into the last-eight.
