SYCERIKA McMAHON is being compared favourably with Irish No 1 Grainne Murphy after leaving with two gold medals and a silver from the European Junior Championships in Belgrade.
Two years ago, Murphy claimed three golds at these championships and on Saturday, Ireland's latest northern teenage sensation just failed to emulate that feat by one-tenth of a second in the 200m freestyle, having won gold in the 50m breaststroke and 400m freestyle earlier in the week.
Russian Ksenia Yuskova won the 200m freestyle gold in 2:00.50, while McMahon took silver in an Irish junior record of 2:00.61.
