Superstition bodes well for Ireland’s Tour de France stage winner

Published 09/07/2013 | 10:41

IRISH Tour de France winner Dan Martin is very superstitious and a great believer in the number 9, according to Paul Kimmage in his latest exclusive video diary for Independent.ie.

Martin won stage 9 of the Tour last week and Kimmage says the superstition bodes well for the upcoming stage 18 on Alpe d’Huez.

On a rare rest day for the Tour de France riders, there was no break for Kimmage yesterday as he pursued interviews with team managers around the South of France.

Kimmage met Dan Martin for a chat  before securing a rare sit-down with Team Sky boss David Brailsford – “the God of Sky”.

“There were some interesting questions asked at the Sky press conference, some leads I’ll be following up on.

“The coffee with Brailsford was great – two years ago, I couldn’t get 10 minutes with him. We sat down this time for an hour and had a good chat.”
