Two gardaí at the same station will be presented with prestigious awards for their sporting achievements at a special ceremony tonight.

Garda Eve McCrystal and her colleague Paul McLaughlin will receive the honours at the Coiste Siamsa Garda Sports Star Awards in Cork.

They are among nine gardaí, including Mayo GAA stars David Clarke and Colm Boyle, who will be honoured.

There will be much back-slapping in Ballybay Garda Station in Co Monaghan where Gda McCrystal and Gda McLaughlin are based.

Gda McCrystal and her partner Katie-George Dunlevy had major success at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup in Ostend, Belgium.

They claimed gold in both the time trial and the road race before winning gold and silver medals at the Rio Paralympic Games.

Gda McLaughlin is a Fifa-qualified referee and was voted ref of the year in the League of Ireland in 2016.

The Hall of Fame Award will go to Ned Kirby, who was a member of the Cork Senior Football team from 1970 to 1974 and a juvenile liaison officer in Gurranabraher Garda Station before retiring.
