Spanish athlete suffers horror fall in European Championships

Published 12/08/2014 | 13:51

Victor Garcia's participation in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the European Championships in Zurich came to an abrupt end when he was nearly knocked unconscious during his heat.

The Spanish athlete went face first into the track after hitting a hurdle during the opening heat.

Initially it seemed as if Garcia was out cold after the accident but, after some treatment from doctors, he was able to get up and walk away.

Garcia is said to have no lasting injuries but has no memory of the accident

Garcia also fell at the final hurdle in the 2012 European Championships but on that occasion managed to get to his feet and finish the race.
