Sorensen spurred

Monday January 18 2010

Louk Sorensen was spurred on by the chance of surpassing Matt Doyle's historic achievement as he headed into his overnight Australian Open first-round clash, writes Paddy Hickey.

The world No 284 became the first Irish player in 25 years to reach the main draw of a Grand Slam when he won a third qualifying match on Saturday.

Doyle lost a first-round five-setter in Melbourne in 1985.

And ahead of his tie with world No 101 Yen-Hsun Lu, Sorensen said: "Hopefully I will go one better than Matt Doyle did."
