Snooker: Rocket in command

RONNIE O'SULLIVAN mixed the sublime with the monotonous as he began his bid for a fourth title by earning a 7-2 lead over Liang Wenbo.

Centuries in the third and fourth frames, an 86 in the eighth and a 56 in the ninth were the highlights from the title favourite's perspective as he capitalised on a litany of mistakes from the Chinese.

Elsewhere, Wales' Mark Williams beat Scot Marcus Campbell 10-5. Martin Gould provided the first shock of the tournament as he eliminated Marco Fu 10-9, while Ali Carter joined Gould in the second round with a 10-4 victory over Jamie Cope.
