The 38-year-old is now set to be a household name after joining the winners' board at the Crucible, but here we look at the things you may not know about Bingham.

Bingham did not enter the top 32 in the world rankings until 2006/07 despite turning professional over a decade earlier in 1995.

At 38, Bingham became the oldest first-time winner of the World Championship and the third-oldest player in the history of the tournament.

The 2011 Australian Goldfields Open was Bingham's first world ranking event win as he came from three frames down to beat Mark Williams 9-8 in the final.

Bingham climbed to a career-high ranking of second with his World Championship success.

Bingham married Michelle Shabi in Cyprus in 2013, having altered the date and cancelled his stag party to make sure he was available to play in all the tournaments either side of his big day.

His nickname is "Ball-Run", something he has had since his amateur days and which stems from a reputation for having fortune on his side, or 'getting the run of the ball' in matches.

Bingham was the last-ever winner of the Premier League Snooker crown after a 7-2 victory over Judd Trump in the 2012 final - the tournament was replaced by the Champion of Champions the following year.
