Corinna Schumacher spent her 45th birthday bedside with her stricken husband Michael yesterday as he spent his 64th day in a coma.

Perhaps the saddest birthday of her life was spent in Grenoble Hospital yesterday along with her children, her brother-in-law and her father-in-law speaking words of love and encouragement in a bid to rouse him from his coma.

While the family are holding out hope that the Formula One legend will make a recovery, some medical experts are far more cautious, including a Formula One medic

Medical experts around the world have reached the same opinion - including a former F1 doctor.

"Nine weeks after the skiing accident of her husband it is emerging ever more clearly that he will not completely recover from his traumatic brain injury,” the medic said.

“Medically this would border on a miracle - something that Corinna wished for on her birthday."

The medic added that there is “little cause for hope”.

Schumacher himself turned 45 on January 3rd with fans holding a vigil outside the hospital.

Three weeks ago doctors began slowly easing back on the anaesthetic keeping him under in a bid to bring him round and, hopefully, see signs of life.
