Razldazl's a shining star
Hot favourite Ballymac Vic was a shock casualty in the semi-finals of the Connolly's Red Mills Irish Laurels at Curraheen Park and last year's winner Razldazl Rioga is now the dog to beat in the 525-yard Classic final.
Ballymac Vic was 4/6 favourite for the second semi-final but was slowly enough into his stride as Boherna House took a flier from trap three. Ballymac recovered and was in second place half way to the bend, with Allen Master in third.
Boherna cleared the bend by a length but Ballymac drifted wide and tight-railing Allen Master slipped into second. Ballymac came flying up the outside to challenge Boherna into the third bend but appeared to be denied an opening and suddenly he was back in fourth place.
The Rachel Wheeler-trained Boherna House kept on powerfully up the straight to win by a length in 28.56 while Allen Master was a length ahead of the third qualifier Confident Rankin.
Earlier, Micheal O Muircheartaigh's Razldazl Rioga gave a foot perfect exhibition as he won the opening semi in 28.24. Dolores Ruth's dog absolutely bolted out of traps and was a good length ahead of Knockglass Billy into the opening bend with Tinas Nova shading third from Camas Crash.
Rioga showed two and a half lengths ahead down the far side and was never going to be caught. Last year's winner won by three lengths from Knockglass Billy in 28.24 with Tinas Nova a game neck third.
As in 2011, we have six inside seeds in the final and, incredibly, inside-loving Razldazl Rioga has drawn six for the second time in the Laurels final.
