Point-to point

Published 05/02/2011 | 05:00

A rescheduled Carrigtwohill meeting lost to frost last Sunday begins this weekend's action, and Liam Burke has two interesting entries in the five-year-old geldings' maiden, which he took last year with Rangitoto.

Deireadh Re and Rolling Aces are this year's entrants and both are due to run in the Barbour silks which were carried to victory last year. Carrigeen Lechuga is the nap of the meeting for the Lalors.

Tomorrow, the four-year-olds make their debuts at Belharbour and Tallow. The latter has attracted 13 entries and Kevin O'Sullivan's Barrakilla is worth noting.

Also on the Tallow cards, Noel Henley's Weston Lodge will go close in the confined race, while Oscar Delta is impossible to oppose in the Open. At Belharbour, Tackmaster could be best followed.

Paddysparks will take beating in the confined maiden for Patrick Hassett. Denis Leahy's Ballincurrig stands out on his reappearance in the five-year-old maiden, while Atlanta Falcon for Tom Howley will take beating in the winners' race.

At Ballydarragh, Festival Bound can take the opening confined race. David O'Brien's Talbot Inch can take the mares' maiden, while Ballyvoneen stands out in the six-year-old maiden for Andy Slattery.

Number Of The Week

4 For the first time in 2011, the four-year-olds are unveiled, as Tallow and Belharbour provide races for the youngest of pointers and possible stars of the future.

Horse To Follow

Ruben Cotter won the well-established five-year-old maiden at Dungarvan and this Robert Tyner-trained gelding looks a potentially high-class sort.

Weekend Selection

Ballyvoneen is entered at all three Sunday meetings by Andy Slattery and this six-year-old maiden will be hard to beat, no matter which engagement he chooses to utilise.
