It's not just in the waterways of Rio that natives of West Cork have been picking up medals in the past week - there was glory for that part of the country at the Community Games in Athlone IT last weekend as well, with Patrick Collins of Enniskeane picking up a gold medal in the U10 handwriting section.
Patrick was quick to point out that he's an all-rounder, however, saying that when he comes back to the Community Games he hopes it might be for running instead.
"My Mam just thought I was very good at handwriting and that I should give it a go," he said as he collected his gold medal. "It's fun. All my brothers and sisters have been here. I'd be interested in running, jumping and quizzes, maybe hurdles."
Patrick's mother, Marie, expressed her delight at the fact that an event like this was even on offer at the Community Games.
"I think it's great to see the range of activities that are part of community games now. The likes of handwriting, art and modelling - it's great for those that maybe aren't as sporty as those that take part in the running. It's about involving every part of the community and that's exactly what it does."
