Others with air of discontent...

•Wayne Gretzky

Early in his NHL career with the Edmonton Oilers, Gretzky struggled with travelling as a result of his fear of heights. In the mid-1980s, his fear of flying was at its peak. He couldn't avoid flying, so he tried several remedies: hypnotherapy, mind-control and sitting in the pilot's cabin.

•Miguel Angel Jimenez

The Spanish golfer has had to do some considerable travelling to win the 18 European Tour titles he has to his name, but he also has a hatred of flying. "Sometimes I go into such a sweat it looks like I've poured a bucket of water over my head," he said in 2009.

•Dennis Bergkamp

The non-flying Dutchman's phobia stemmed from an incident while flying with the Holland national side to World Cup 1994 when the engines of their plane cut out. Bergkamp decided he wouldn't fly again and, where possible, he would often travel a day or two early by car or train to away venues.
