TONIGHT Ireland’s Olympians will be led into London’s Olympic arena by gold medal-prospect Katie Taylor.

It will be the proudest moment of a career littered with World and European prizes. And – fingers crossed – with an even better prize to come for the Bray boxer in the coming weeks.

And parading behind her and the national flag will be a talented and confident team of Irishmen and women dreaming of going for gold.

But will the opening extravaganza match the show-stopper in Beijing four years ago ... or will the North Koreans be offended for a second time in a few days?

And who will light Olympic torch? It’s been kept a closely guarded secret.

The curtains will be raised on the greatest show on earth at 9pm with the whole world watching.

You can follow Aidan Coughlan’s Live Blog – and join in the debate - from 8.30 pm on Friday night.
