Irish light heavyweight boxer Kenneth Egan is through to the Olympic quarter-finals after winning his bout this morning.

The Neilstown Boxing Club man easily defeated Turkish fighter Muzaffer Bahram by 10-2.

Egan will be guaranteed at least a bronze medal if he wins his next fight against Silva Washington of Brazil.

Swimmer Melanie Noctor will also be participating in the women's 200-metre breaststroke heats tonight.
