Nicolas Roche made the most of his post-Classics break with a short trip home to launch his new Irish junior team at Carton House in Maynooth, writes GERARD CROMWELL.

Consisting of second-year juniors Dylan Foley, David McCarthy, Danny Bruton and national champion Liam Corcoran and a first-year quartet of Darragh Long, Matthew Teggart, Mark Downey and Fintan Ryan, the team will be known as the Standard Life Nicolas Roche Performance Team.

"One of the key moments in your career is at junior level," said Roche. "We decided that if we started with a good set of juniors we might help the young lads want to continue in cycling."

Although the squad only includes junior riders for now, Roche hopes to see it grow with its riders and progress through the various ranks until the whole team can turn professional.

"This small little project might go on to be something bigger and turn into an Irish-based professional team," Roche added.
