McKenna hopes Bully can see off raiders
Greyhound fans have an embarrassment of riches tonight when the 42nd running of the Boylesports International will be staged at Dundalk, while it will be semi-final time in the Corn Cuchulainn, the six-bend Classic, at Harold's Cross.
For the first time in a number of years, there is a genuine Anglo-Irish battle in the rich Dundalk Invitational and betting should be extremely competitive on what is a very open contest.
The firms make Roxholme Bully a strong favourite and the sponsors Boylesports are biggest at 15/8. I can see that price being strongly taken during the day but there is also value to be had elsewhere.
Defending champion Quail Hollow has the early pace to trouble any of his five rivals but the lack of a recent run may tell against him and the outcome could revolve around Roxholme Bully, Priceless Sky and Sawpit Sensation.
The dash to the bend is going to be vital and if the inside trio are involved in any crowding they could open the gate for English raiders Sawpit Sensation and Screen Critic along with Pat Buckley's Farloe Trent.
Owen McKenna's Roxholme Bully has been the dog with the recent form and he may just lead Priceless Sky into the back. He can then go on to collect the €20,000 prize but keep an eye out for Sawpit Sensation from halfway. He won't be far away.
Best bets on the strong card can be Razldazl Rioga in an Open sprint, Airlie Dazzler in the 620 final and Monleek Diamond in a 600 final.
The Corn Cuchulainn is building up to a tremendous climax and two very hot semis are in prospect.
Volcano was disappointing last week and is badly drawn in the first heat. While she is expected to run a big race, Razldazl Marilyn could have the call here, particularly if she can make a fast start.
The second heat could be a real thriller with Priceless Pilot, White Soks Roks and Shanless Becky the big three and the last named is in excellent form.
Monleek Diamond 8.16 Dundalk
Razldazl Rioga 8.42 Dundalk
Razldazl Marilyn 9.18 HX
Airlie Dazzler 10.05 Dundalk
