Shirley McCay's frantic dash from St Patrick's Cathedral to Milltown was not enough to inspire Old Alexandra, who were beaten 3-1 in the Irish League against Pegasus.

McCay was absent for the first quarter against the league holders and favourites as she collected her journalism degree from DIT. While the Irish international battled her way through city traffic, her team-mates looked in danger of taking a hiding from their classy Belfast visitors.

Stephanie Quinn pounced twice for Pegasus in the opening 10 minutes as they forced a series of penalty corners.

McCay's arrival stopped the rot when she belatedly slotted into midfield and Hannah McDermott volleyed a goal past Sharon Moffett before half-time. However, the prospect of a bonus point for Alex was ended by Vanessa Surgeoner who pounced close in for Pegasus from a cross by Kate McConnell on 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, in the other half of the league draw, Loreto beat Lurgan -- with Nikki Daly hitting three of the six goals they posted at Beaufort. The convent girls have the maximum possible eight points from their two IHL outings, one ahead of Ballymoney who beat Cork Harlequins 3-2.
