Larry remembered as Dunleer entries flow in

The late Larry McGuill will be remembered at Saturday's Dunleer 4 Mile Road Race in county Louth.

Over 80 local runners are in a training group led by David Carrie and many of them will join hundreds of others in this event. Contact for the event is Eugene Burns at 087-9847106.

Last Saturday in nearby Annagassin, Brian McCloskey (Dundalk) won the inaugural Noel Carroll Memorial 10k (33.30) in a well attended event in the late legend's home village, where a photographic exhibition of Carroll's outstanding career was on display.

Gladys Daniel from Belfast won the women's race in 35.11.

The Dromahair 4 mile Road Race/Fun Run & Walk takes place on Sunday week (3.0). Registration is at the Blue Devon on Main Street. The race is in aid of S.T.O.P -- a charity that helps in the prevention of suicide and provides support for those bereaved by suicide. Enquiries: Tom or Violet Cullen at 071-913 4697.

Entries are coming in at a steady pace for the Pat the Baker Longford Marathon & Half Marathon on August 28.

"We have been getting a lot of entries from Galway after the news that the Galway Marathon due to take part on the same weekend has been cancelled," said race director Liam Fenelon.

This is the 10th anniversary of the event, which incorporates an ultra marathon 39-mile event and a Marathon Relay. Full details on www.longfordmarathon.com or 043-3349682.
