king edges to doubles final

Saturday July 03 2010

IRELAND'S Barry King yesterday qualified for his second doubles final this year in an ITF Futures event.

The 25-year-old Dubliner and American Ashwin Kumar, the No 2 seeds, scored a 3-6 6-1 11-9 victory over the unseeded pairing of Swede Patrik Brydolf and Britain's Matthew Short in the grass-court tournament at Manchester.

King and Kumar face the top seeds, Indian pair Divij Sharan and Vishnu Vardhan, in the final.

James Cluskey's hopes of facing King in the final were dashed when he and Australia's Colin Ebelthite, the No 4 seeds, were edged 7-5 6-7 (5/7) 10-6 by Sharan and Vardhan in the second semi-final.
