KATIE TAYLOR beat Ukrainian Yulia Tsiplakova at the Bord Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in Dublin last night to record her third win since winning an historic Olympic gold in London last August.
The Bray woman earned a comfortable unanimous decision over four, two minutes rounds last evening.
It was an impressive performance from the World No. 1, who repeatedly snapped home two and three-punch combinations against an opponent she beat two times at the National Stadium in Dublin in March 2010.
Meanwhile, Belfast middleweight Conrad Cummings handed the Mexico Guerreros what could prove to be a crucial win in tonight’s World Series of Boxing quarter-final first-leg with the British Lionhearts at London’s York Hall.
The Guerreros lost the match 4-1 – John Joe Nevin and Joe Ward both winning for the Lionhearts. However, the bottom line for the Lionhearts is that they must win at least one bout in next weekend’s return leg or they are out.
Nevin (Cavan BC), Ward (Moate BC), and Cummings (Holy Trinity BC) all won on identical unanimous decisions, all three Irish boxers winning all fifteen rounds between them to post identical 50-45, 50-45,50-45 decisions across the board.
