Jones relay team lose their medals
ATHLETICS: Relay team-mates of disgraced sprinter Marion Jones at the 2000 Olympics have been stripped of their medals.
The IOC confirmed the gold-winning 4x400 metres team and 4x100 metres quartet, who came third, would have to return their medals because Jones admitted to taking steroids at the Sydney Games.
The decision affects Jearl Miles-Clark, Monique Hennagan and LaTasha Colander, who won the 4x400m, and 4x100m runners Chryste Gaines, Torri Edwards and Nanceen Perry.
Meanwhile, Twice Olympic champion Haile Gebrselassie, who pulled out of the marathon over pollution concerns, will run in the 10,000 metres at the Beijing Olympics.
Joyce 'holding' appeal rejected
BOXING: The IABA's appeal against the Armenian referee following David Oliver Joyce's controversial 19-17 defeat in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games qualifying tournament in Athens has been rejected by 5-1.
Video evidence shows that Bashir Hassan was cautioned for consistently holding, but the Swede never received a public warning, which would have seen him concede two points under the rules.
Ken Egan, Darren Sutherland and John Joe Joyce will all be in semi-final action today.
