The Glens took a shock lead through Gary Shaw in the opening quarter.

The Tallaght men let their guard down just before the break to allow Stefan Bernatek a tap-in equaliser, before Mike McCann hit the winner just after the interval.

The bonus point could prove vital as Glenanne face Polish team Grunwald Poznan today, with the winners almost certain to progress to the knockout phase of the competition.

Tennis

Former world No 3 and reigning Olympic champion Elena Dementieva has announced her retirement after her exit from the WTA Championships in Doha.

The 29-year-old Russian made the announcement on court following her 6-4 6-2 defeat to Francesca Schiavone in the group stage of the tournament.

Baseball

Matt Cain pitched for over seven scoreless innings as the San Francisco Giants claimed a 2-0 World Series lead with an emphatic 9-0 defeat of the Texas Rangers.

The Giants recorded their biggest single innings in post-season history as they turned a 2-0 lead from the bottom of the eighth into a clear victory thanks to seven runs.
