The women of Loreto and men of Belfast Instonians will be playing national EY League hockey next season after emerging victorious from yesterday's play-offs at Grange Road.

After a scoreless opening half against Belfast Harlequins, Leinster champions Loreto moved up a gear in the second half when Ali Meeke hooked a shot back into the net despite facing away from goal.

Loreto then went two up as Kate Crotty finished off a penalty corner.

In the men's decider, Jeremy Duncan put UCD ahead but James Corry levelled, and Instonians kicked on with goals from William Robinson and John Watson .

Yesterday's losing sides will have a last-gasp chance of promotion as they play the second-from-bottom sides in the EY Hockey Leagues in Banbridge next weekend - Harlequins against UCC and UCD against Cookstown.
