Hockey: Coll secures title for Alex

Old Alexandra 2 Pembroke Wanderers 0 Women's hockey

Old Alexandra triumphed over Pembroke Wanderers at Grange Road to claim the Jacqui Potter Cup yesterday.

Danielle Costigan shot Alex into the lead after seven minutes, and they wrapped it up when Rebecca Coll added their second with 14 minutes remaining.

Pembroke had little to offer, however, despite finishing the game with seven short corners.

Their best scoring chance came from Shona Doyle, but that effort was cleared off the goal line by Alex's Leah Lenehan.

However, it was Pembroke's ineptness at short corners that proved costly in the end, allowing Old Alexandra, who last won the Leinster Senior Cup a decade ago, to reclaim the trophy now named in memory of former Muckross international Jacqui Potter.
