Hernandez sets the standard

Spanish runner Jose Carlos Hernandez took the honours in Saturday's National Lottery Frank Duffy 10 mile race in the Phoenix Park.

Leading the field of over 5,000 runners, the Spaniard was just 3 seconds offthe course record with his time of 48:15. Anthony Ford from England came in second place with his time of 48:36 ahead of North Belfast Harriers' Stephen Scullion (49:59).

The women's race was won by Gemma Marie Steel from England in a great time of 55:37. Dundrum South Dublin's Maria McCambridge came in second place on her returnt to competitive running just 11 weeks after giving birth to a baby.

The next race in the National Lottery Dublin Race Series is the the National Lottery Dublin Half Marathon will take place on Saturday September 17 also in Phoenix Park.
