Americans Luis Moreno and Andy Nett are the new world doubles handball champions after they saw off Paul Brady and Michael Finnegan of Cavan in the final, WRITES PAUL FITZPATRICK.
Moreno was on fire early on as the winners raced to a 17-5 lead but Brady quickly took charge with an array of flat kills. He began targetting Nett with a vicious serve down the right and the Minnesota man, a relative newcomer at this level, struggled.
A run of points took them to 13 before they were taken out of the service box and the Americans finished it off 21-13.
Moreno was the best player on the court in the second game as the Americans raced to a 17-9 lead and, while the Cavanmen pulled it back to 14-17, they finished it out 21-14.
Earlier, Fiona Shannon and sister Sibeal Gallagher recorded a remarkable victory over Kerry's Maria Daly and Ashley Prendiville in the women's doubles final.
Gallagher tore ligaments in her arm in the semi-final and was wincing with pain throughout but saw through the game as she helped her side to a 21-16, 15-21, 11-3 win.
