Handball: Americans oust fancied home duo

Paul Fitzpatrick

There was an upset in the Men's Open Doubles at the World Championships in CityWest when Americans Luis Moreno and Andy Nett shocked Team Ireland's Robbie McCarthy and Brian Carrol.

The Irishmen won the opener 21-6, but Moreno took charge of the match, levelling it and leading his partner to an 11-1 tiebreaker win.

Meanwhile, Mallow's Tadhg Carroll outlasted Tyrone's Barry Devlin in the Men's 'B' Singles final and the evergreen Michael 'Ducksy' Walsh rallied from 17-9 in game two to beat California's Chris Watkins in the Over 40 decider.
