Greyhounds: Tyrur Enda pulls out stops to march on
Tyrur Enda remains in the driving seat for the Pat Hennerty Sales Irish Laurels after the semi-finals at Curraheen Park on Saturday and he is strongly fancied to land the top prize of €35,000 next weekend.
PJ Fahy's dog had a close shave in the first semi-final where he missed the break and was struggling to the bend. However, he was poised to take full advantage of some bumping up front and attacked superbly to show in front of Kid Billzer leaving the second bend.
From here it was a one-dog show as Tyrur Enda raced to a four-and-a-half-length win from Huckabees Kid in 28.28, with Kid Billzer in third.
Reigning champion Sevenheads Bay lost out on a final spot by a short head after being involved in the first-bend bumping, but the Owen McKenna-trained Tubbertelly Dubh emerged as a serious threat to Tyrur when an emphatic winner of the second heat.
This youngster has an excellent turn of pace to the bend and he put it to full effect as he stormed clear of Took The Okee and won by seven and a half lengths in 28.23. Kiowa Myth stayed on strongly to finish third.
Meanwhile, leading tracker Moral Duty sustained a broken hock when contesting a second-round heat of the Tennent's Gold Cup at Drumbo Park.
Fastest heat winner was Leeview Jet in 28.13, while the other heat winners were Bred To Win (28.61), Oran Legend (28.26) and Ballycanal Chief (28.71).
TRAP DRAW -- Hennerty Sales Irish Laurels: 1 Tubbertelly Dubh; 2 Tyrur Enda; 3 Kiowa Myth; 4 Huckabees Kid; 5 Took The Okee; 6 Kid Billzer.
