Greyhounds: Shaneboy comes good

Shaneboy Lee had been an accident waiting to happen and it duly materialised on Saturday night when Des and Eoghan Kiely's dog raced to a deserved victory in the final of the Hegarty Bookmakers 600 at Shelbourne Park.
Returned at a massive 7/1 for a dog that had previously contested five major finals including last year's derby, Shaneboy Lee grabbed this race by the scruff of the neck on traprise and never relinquished his claim for the €20,000 prize.
It was anybody's race turning for home, but Shaneboy Lee doesn't lack for pace, class, stamina or determination and he pulled out that bit extra up the straight to run out a two-length winner from Tyrur Brennan in 32.53.
Over at Wimbledon, the Irish glory run through the Williamhill.com English Derby continued as eight of our team qualified for tomorrow's quarter-finals, with four of them showing the way with the fastest times of the night.
Star turn was Dolores Ruth's Toomaline Jack as he bombed away from traps and ran out a most emphatic winner in a new record time of 28.25.
The other Irish winners were Mesedo Blue in 28.53, Barefoot Bullet in 28.54 and Tranquil Time in 28.55.
