Greyhounds: semi-finals of the Tote Gold Cup

Published 12/03/2011 | 05:00

As ever, top billing goes to Shelbourne Park tonight, when the semi-finals of the Tote Gold Cup will give punters an opportunity to recoup some of their losses from last week's quarter- finals, with the added attraction of a guaranteed Pick 6 Jackpot pool of €40,000.

The betting will be pretty open, with the long odds being 6/1 the field during the week, and perhaps Liam O'Rourke's Ballymac Tipp's Trap 1 draw might prove the vital factor in the opening semi.

He is a fast starter that immediately moves very wide and should really be a middle seed. However, he makes it work and can lead the opposition around the corner and stay there. Watch for Colourful Fox and the well drawn Cians Fantasy for the forecast and trio.

If they all get off to the starts they are well capable of in the second heat, then there could be a mighty crunch on the opening bend.

One that might emerge from his favourable draw is Pat Gordon's Fatboyz Tyson. He goes up well, maintains a wide course and stays strongly. Joey Jojo Junior and Quick Lee are the main rivals.

Bet of the night at the Ringsend venue could be Rita Downey's Monleek Bay in the concluding 575.

The Roches Feeds Oaks is at quarter-final stage at Limerick and it is really hotting up. Go with Cornamaddy Swift and Air Force Ellie for a double. Kiln Kylie is another appealing sort, while Mozzletoff can go close in the second heat.

De Ex Factor and Master Blaster could be two for punters in the heats of the Gain Feeds Irish Cesare-witch at Mullingar.

The quarter-finals of the Kudos Supersprint will be run at Curraheen and in the first heat, Calling Spice can see off Yes Boss, while Sheepwalk Mac is banker material in the second. Busters Choice and Mumhan Aris get the call in the other qualifiers.
