Greyhounds: Mcguigan in flying form

There was a surprise visitor to Shelbourne Park on Saturday night when the Czech Republic-owned and bred tracker Fenomen Co Co clocked 29.03 in a preparatory trial for the Ladbrokes.com Irish Derby, which commences on Thursday.

Fenomen Co Co is one of the top performers on the Continent and has won the European Championship, the European Classic, the European Stayers and the Masters.

The trial session featured brilliant runs of 28.43 from Tyrur Enda and 28.51 from his long-time absent kennel companion Tyrur Lohan. Clonkeen Stan rowed in with a 28.56 effort.

There are now 150 names in the book for the Classic and the draw will be made tomorrow morning at 10.0. The first round will be run over Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Star of Saturday's card was Tyrur McGuigan with a powerful 28.54 run in winning an A1 contest, but there were also impressive runs from Dream Walker (28.75) and Kilmalady Torres (28.57). Over the 550 trip, Ballyfeard Brave won in 29.86, Boherash Torres in 30.01 and Highview Shadow in 30.07.

There will be no racing at Harold's Cross tonight and racing will be staged at the track tomorrow, Wednesday and on Sunday. Shelbourne will race each night from Thursday to Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Gain Feeds Inter Track will be staged at Longford this evening featuring teams from Thurles, Mullingar, Galway, Newbridge, Lifford and the home squad.

The championship will be decided over six open races and the card also features the finals of the Paddy Glennon Memorial and the Johnny Rooney Memorial.
