Greyhounds: Joker proves Easter ace

Owen McKenna claimed his second Easter Cup when Thurlesbeg Joker justified favouritism in a thrilling finish at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.

The expected battle between Thurlesbeg Joker and Toomaline Jack transpired and the latter shot from traps as usual and led by a few lengths into the opening bend.

But Thurlesbeg Joker got across his rivals and, poised in second place heading into the back straight, forced his way through on the inside of the leader to take the spoils by a length in 29.55. Tyrur Chris came in third some five lengths adrift.

Meanwhile, in the McCarthy Insurance Group Oaks at Curraheen Park the John Kiely-trained favourite Rossa Baby sneaked a half-length victory from Pencray Lass in 28.48, with Droopys Kina a neck third.

Over at Shawfield, Nambisco won the Scottish Derby for trainer Carly Philpott, when leading all the way for an easy victory over the part Irish-owned Ballymac Rebound in 28.98.
