Fresh from his Easter Cup success, Thurlesbeg Joker turned on the style again at Shelbourne on Saturday night when he was joint fastest in the opening round of the Hegarty Bookmakers Open 600.
Recovering from a slow start, Thurlesbeg Joker quickly got into gear and took up the running early in the back straight. He then moved clear to register a five-length victory over Tyrur Giovanni in 32.40.
The time was later equalled by PJ Fahy's Tyrur Chris as the Easter Cup third flashed from the traps and raced through to seal victory a length and a half clear of Shaneboy Lee in 32.40.
This was the final leg of a great four-timer for 21-year-old trainer Conor Fahy who also turned out Tyrur Mikiemac to win his heat in 32.50 and Tyrur Brennan in 32.71, while Tyrur Dowd won a supporting contest.
The other Hegarty heat winners were Ballyfeard Brave in 32.58, Eden Brett in 32.68, Rossonairi King (33.01) and Three One Three (32.88).
There is a top-class line-up for the final of the Oldcastle Open 400 at Dundalk this evening with the puppy Sheepwalk Mac taking on the established two-bend stars Carlows Pride, Yes Boss and Inny Blue. Monday night racing also resumes at Limerick this evening with a 10-race card that kicks off at 8.0.
Meanwhile, there are 207 contenders for the Williamhill.com English Derby which will commence on Thursday night at Wimbledon and which boasts 28 Irish-trained contenders.
