Greyhounds: Jack delivers for O'Shea
Dublin publican Larry O'Shea was again the toast of Shelbourne on Saturday night when he won the Tyrur McGuigan Open 575 for the second year on the trot with his dog Whatsupjack.
Whatsupjack prevailed by a short head a year ago -- but there was no doubt this time as the son of Brett Lee led all for a three-length victory over Three One Three in 32.48.
Liam Dowling's three finalists filled the second, third and fourth placings -- Ballymac Lomu in third and favourite General Dogsbody was fourth after missing the kick at the start.
O'Shea also had the fastest winner in the Guinness Trophy at Curraheen Park with Gogetemclaire clocking 28.82. The other heat winners were Paid Paddy in 28.95, Express Trick in 29.08 and Mumhan Aris in 29.09.
An unusual incident in the final heat where Elegant Rumble and Voodoo Doctor dead-heated for third will run-off tomorrow morning (11.30) for a place in the semi-finals.
Back in Shelbourne there were upsets in the semi-finals of the Joe Dunne Memorial with Ron Graffin's Mutual Decision and Big Bam taking the honours. In the Vetsearch International Kennedy Cup at Limerick, fastest semi-finalist was Pat Guilfoyle's Joey Jojo Junior, while in the other semi it was Paul Dillon's Bua Dearg that proved strongest.
