Irish hopes are again sky high in advance of next Saturday's English Derby final at Wimbledon following the semi-finals in which Razldazl George and Barefoot Bullet performed magnificently in qualifying for the concluding stage.
While the Charlie Lister-trained Taylors Sky is the 15/8 favourite with the sponsors for the final next Saturday, it is not a true reflection of the situation and the 3/1 and 7/2 about Barefoot Bullet and Razldazl George represents real value.
Taylors Sky equalled his four-day-old track record of 28.21 when winning his heat by three parts of a length from Barefoot Bullet, but the latter was the true hero of this race as he had by far the least favourable path and looks ideally drawn for the final in the five box.
Razldazl George won the other heat in 28.51 after walking out, receiving a gift of a run at the bend and then staying on strongly to beat Westmead Guru by over two lengths.
At home, Skerries trainer Marie Gilbert had a double in the heats of the Sporting Press Irish Oaks at Shelbourne with Mozzletoff and Rusty Streak. Mozzletoff produced a brilliant effort to lead all the way in 28.46.
Fastest in the first round of the Kerry Agribusiness Irish St Leger at Limerick was Definate Opinion with a record 29.54 on Friday, while fastest on a slower track on Saturday was Soviet Marco in 29.95.
English Derby final draw: 1 Taylors Sky; 2 Bright Redcliffe; 3 Westmead Guru; 4 Razldazl George; 5 Barefoot Bullet (w); 6 Cloheena Cash (w).
