Greyhounds: Easter Cup for Makeshift

Rathangan trainer Dolores Ruth added to her impressive portfolio when supplying a one-two in a thrilling final to the College Causeway/Killahan Phanter Easter Cup at a packed Shelburne Park on Saturday night.

The half-brothers Makeshift and Razldazl George battled it out for the €25,000 prize and it was only by a whisker that Makeshift got the verdict in a time of 29.59.

Nothing else counted in the race as Makeshift flew out and led up from Razldazl George. There was over two lengths between them heading into the back straight, but Razldazl was in the leader's slipstream on the third bend.

Razldazl challenged strongly off the final bend, but just failed to collar his kennel companion and the verdict was a short-head in Makeshift's favour.

It was then some six and a half lengths to Slippery Bob in third. The first and second are owned by the Dazzling Syndicate which comprises Ms Ruth, Liam Marks, Gary Ball and Roy Nicholl and they are now set for the trip to Wimbledon and a challenge for the English Derby.

Talking of Derbys, the Irish had to settle for the minor money in the Scottish Derby final on Saturday as Taylors Cruise provided English trainer Charlie Lister with his sixth success in the classic. He led home the Irish trio of Pablo Supreme, Farloe Force and Beaming Dilemma.

Grace Hennessy (12) had a night to remember at Curraheen Park on Saturday as Tyrur Tinkerbell, trained by her dad, Paul, won the €6,250 McCarthy Insurance Group Oaks final in 28.68.
