Greyhounds: Diamonds land sparkling three-timer

The recently formed Diamonds-Are-Forever Syndicate could hardly have dreamed of such a terrific start to their ambitious greyhound venture.
Their plunge into the market for four choicely bred youngsters appears to have been hugely successful and resulted in a magnificent three-timer in the Red Mills Open Unraced Stake quarter-finals at Clonmel.
It was one of those Fraser Black-trained trio, Plus Five, which lowered the colours of hitherto unbeaten ante-post favourite Glenanore Dancer in the second heat.
The favourite was involved in back-straight crowding with Seventh Heaven and Plus Five hit the front before winning by two lengths from Glenanore Dancer in 28.84.
Black's Senior Cup had won the opening heat when taking over at the front early in the back straight and he won by half a length from Screen Critic in 28.89.
But Ashford Castle was best of the three Black winners as he recovered from a slow start to outclass his rivals for a five-length margin over Ballyhill Beryl in 28.65.
The other heat went to Pat Dalton's big-finishing Bouncy Castle in 28.86.
The semi-finals will be run next Sunday, when the second heat should be a real cracker, with Ashford Castle and Glenanore Dancer clashing in a contest which also has third-round winners Bouncy Castle and Senior Cup.
The solitary Irish meeting tonight will be at Harold's Cross, where the bet of the day can be DROOPYS CRUMLIN in the opening contest.
This is a re-run of last Tuesday's void Novice 750, where the selection lost huge ground at trap rise but ran on in an eye-catching manner to be second.
He was the selection last week and retains our confidence.
Entries are urgently required for three valuable competitions which close today: the Joe Dunne Memorial at Shelbourne, the Feramo D Open 525 at Limerick and the Guinness A1 Trophy at Curraheen Park.
