Greyhounds: Definate reigns in thriller
Definate Opinion became the third dog in history to gain repeat victories in the Gain Feeds Irish Cesarewitch when winning a thrilling final at Mullingar on Saturday.
Trained by Pat Guilfoyle for Finola Richardson, Definate Opinion got a flyer from traps and led Kingo by a length into the back. The latter challenged hard at the third bend but just couldn't overhaul Definate Opinion, which ran out a three parts of a length winner from Kingo in 33.23, with Master Blaster a length and a half back in third.
The top three are likely to renew rivalry in the forthcoming Ted Hegarty 600 at Shelbourne.
Dolores Ruth, trainer of Kingo, had better luck at Shelbourne, where Makeshift and Razldazl George completed a double in the second-round heats of the College Causeway/Killahan Phanter Easter Cup.
Makeshift was fastest heat winner as he led all the way for a half-length margin over Droopys Joe in 29.96, while Razldazl George took it up off the final bend when beating Cian Abbey by half a length in 30.13. The other heat winners were Tyrur Carey in 30.00 and Mozzletoff in 30.21.
There were two Irish- trained winners in the first round of the Scottish Derby. Owen McKenna's Pablo Supreme won the opening heat in 29.07, while Fraser Black's Krug Ninety Five won the fourth heat in 29.20. The second round will be run tomorrow.
Black was also on the mark at Curraheen Park where Lady Lucielle was the fastest first-round winner in the McCarthy Insurances Oaks when flying clear early to win in 28.55.
