Greyhound Racing: Slick start can propel Ballymac Vic to super time

Most of the top stars have returned to action at this stage following their winter breaks and there should be a big welcome for one of the leading trackers, BALLYMAC VIC, when he turns up in an Open 525 at Shelbourne Park this evening.

Liam Dowling sounded very happy with the brilliant son of Kinloch Brae when contacted during the week and expressed the opinion that the dog has strengthened up during his break.

His trials around Tralee and Limerick would appear to back up this opinion and he could post a super time when he wears the red jacket in the Open 525 (9.30).

He won't have things his own way, with the likes of Cabra Buck, Laughil Billy and Refuge Of Sinner among his rivals, but he can seal victory with a slick start.

Others worth noting on the Shelbourne card are PJ Fahy's bitch TYRUR QUEVEGA (8.46), despite stumbling badly at the start last week, and Graham Holland's KILLBARRY ROVER (9.45), which is drawn on the right side of Camas Crash in an Open 550.

Thanks to the Inter Track service, there will be a very strong audience for the quarter-finals of the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial Puppy Stake at Limerick.

The ante-post favourite here is Owen McKenna's ROXHOLME BULLY (9.0) and his inside draw can be vital in a hot third heat. Main rivals are Leamaneigh Turbo, Droopys Banner and Rockview Turbo.

McKenna's FARLOE BUDDY (9.15) is also well housed in the final heat and can be too good for Royal Diva, Kisses For Cloda and Melodys Gamble. The early pace of SCOLARI EXPRESS (8.30) can be vital in the opening heat, while ASHFORD CASTLE (8.45) may just see off Oran Maestro and Slippery Robert in Heat 2.

BULMERS BABY (9.10) and CURRAGH ANDY (9.25) are the likely winners of the Kudos Supersprint semi-finals at Curraheen.

The final of the Bookmakers Champion Bitch will be run at Thurles, and Ruairi Dwan's BORNA GEM (8.55) is a confident choice.

Meanwhile, the opening round of the Gain Feeds Cesarewitch at Mullingar throws up likely heat winners in BUDDY MINOR (8.40), GIZMO CLASSIC (9.25) and RIPLEY DIANA (9.55).

Pick 6 check

The Pick 6 Intertrack Jackpot has a €25,000 guaranteed pool and a few worth including in your bets are Ballymartin Wok (9.10) and both Lassa Expedition and Varra Captain (9.40) in the Limerick legs, while Jimmy Boy (10.0) and Oran Rossi (10.30) have winning chances at Shelbourne Park.

Retired show

The finals of the GAIN Retired Greyhound Show will be held at the IKC Show Centre in Cloughran, Co Dublin tomorrow, with the doors opening at 11.0. It should be a great occasion for all the family.
