Gimli's rock leads treble delight for harrington
MOONE trainer Jessica Harrington landed a terrific 420/1 treble at Down Royal yesterday, highlighted by the victory of Gimli's Rock in the feature WKD Core Hurdle, WRITES THOMAS KELLY.
Gimli's Rock's stablemate Summit Meeting was much shorter in the betting, but it was the 10/1 shot who proved an emphatic winner of the Grade 2 feature.
Hot favourite Luska Lad led five out, but at the second-last flight Tom Treacy and Gimli's Rock drew away to score by four lengths from Der Spieler.
Harrington made it number two when Saville Row (16/1) showed plenty of style to make a winning debut in the hands of Robbie Power in the maiden hurdle.
And Power was also aboard Bostons Angel as the 5/4 favourite completed the Harrington hat-trick with an easy one-length win in the Porter & Co Beginners Chase.
Paddy Neville's Macville could be Cheltenham-bound in March after a smooth triumph in the Grade 3 EBF Lough Construction Ltd Mares Novice Hurdle. The 8/1 shot, ridden by Paul Townend, pulled clear to score by eight lengths from Oilily and odds-on favourite Araucaria.
The concluding Archie Watson Memorial Bumper went to the Noel Meade-trained Dylan Ross who sluiced up, despite a slow early pace, under Nina Carberry.
Meath trainer Gordon Elliott was on the mark in the opening juvenile hurdle with the Michael O'Leary-owned Toner D'Oudaires, which recorded an impressive six-length win over Ember Jack under Davy Russell.
