Favourites fall in Causeway

The bookmakers were laughing all the way to the bank after a series of major upsets in the opening round of the College Causeway/ Killahan Phanter Easter Cup at Shelbourne on Saturday.

Crashing out of the competition went leading fancies Tyrur Big Mike, Razldazl Jayfkay and Deerfield Music while other hotpots failed to deliver but survived to contest next week's second round.

Tyrur Big Mike was always struggling after a tardy start in the opening heat and faded to finish fourth in a race where Razldazl George beat Asisola by three parts of a length in 29.80.

Razldazl Jayfkay lost vital ground in the fourth heat as Talktoyouhand drifted wide on the bend and never looked like getting into the frame as John Robinson's Quick Lee won in 29.96.

Fastest of the round was Conor Fahy's Tyrur O'Gorman as he stopped the clock in 29.74 and the Galway handler completed a double with Tyrur Carey in 30.11.

The John McGee-trained Cornamaddy Swift was an all-the-way winner of the €6,000 Roches Feeds Oaks at Limerick on Saturday.

She broke fast and held off Local Flyer and Tyrur Tinkerbell by three quarters of a length and a short head in 28.46.

Down at Curraheen, the Eoin O'Neill-trained Yes Boss flew from the traps and gave an exhibition of sprinting as he beat Sheepwalk Mac by four lengths in 17.46.

Meanwhile, Definate Opinion and Kingo ran away with their respective semi-finals of the Gain Feeds Cesarewitch at Mullingar on Saturday in 33.10 and 33.05 and they are expected to dominate next Saturday's final.
